A way to vote for the removal of certain words

Certain words or phrases are very difficult to guess and are not suitable for the game. For example "personal computer" or "gear changer". They are too specific or the usage is uncommon.

After each round is completed, there should be a button or check box that says "Vote for the removal of the previous word."

Every so often the words with the most votes would be removed from the database by the admin.

10 people think this is a good idea

I think this is not a good idea for certain words. For example people may vote for a word just because it is diffcult, when it provides an interesting challenge. For example I got "kool-aid" recently and managed to get it by drawing Jonestown. People really enjoyed it.

I would only favor doing this if the threshold were high enough so that only the most egregious words were thrown out.

But I would vote for removing "personal computer" and "gear changer" . . .

I'd also note that there are cases of "slightly different word, same thing" like:

Shoe string, shoelace

These two take away from guessing what the drawing is above and move it more towards guessing which version of the game is using. They are the same, one should be removed or the program should be setup to accept either answer.

How the hell did you manage that? Can't you just draw a giant pitcher with a smiley face on it and give it arms and legs?

Way too many automotive brand names in the word list. BMW is not a word, neither are Toyota, Acura, and Honda. The drawings for these entries are usually their company logos, so no real challenge.

I don't think you should vote for the other reasons articulated in the thread (people will vote out the interesting and challenging words, and we will be left with "checkmark" and "box" even at the 50,000 table).

I think words should get rated over time by how often they are guessed successfully. After you have gathered enough data on a word (say, it's been used 20 times already) there should be a continuum from bad entries (never guessed correctly) to easy words (95%+ guessed correctly). The ones that are never guessed should eventually be retired, and the ones that are just kind of hard should get tried out on the higher score tables. This would also automatically avoid frustrating newcomers with possible but difficult words (like "representative").
