Rules clarification: letters in drawings

There is some emerging consensus, but I think it would be helpful to define some rules more clearly on the "How to Play" page, so that people don't feel like they're being warned unfairly.
1. Are all letters banned, or only letters from the actual word? I'd advocate for banning all letters and numbers. 2. Is it allowed to use symbols/letters to provide information that is available through the Hint tool? Like the "2W" trick, or blanks for number of words/letters, plus signs to indicate phrases? I of course advocate for my own personal preferences: no on "2W" (see above) but blanks ok. This is Ryan's game, not mine, so I don't particularly care which way these go, and am just voicing my own opinion on them, but they do need to be more clearly defined. Thanks! |

at 5:43 PM, Sunday April 6, 2008 EDT I agree. I've been playing according to iSketch rules, sort of (without being too strict on other players). Numbers are allowed there. Giving info that is provided by Hints is not. Likewise, giving more than one Hint by drawing it would be illegal. Blanks OK (despite this being a Hint!).

at 6:27 PM, Sunday April 6, 2008 EDT If (IF) 2w/3w etc isn't allowed then drawing a line(s) to imply how many words shouldn't be.
If any letter shouldn't be drawn then neither should ANY number nor ANY symbol, ie £/$/%/+/= Coulda sworn the old 'sounds like' trick wasn't allowed but i may be wrong. That was just to clarify for the hypocrites out there. think about it. i'm happy to be quite lenient about it all and so i'll allow the standard ___ + ____ or 2w/3w in the top corner, i'd be happy with the starting letter if no clue had been given yet P_____ , people see a P and go straight to the warn button without giving anything else a second thought, why? i have no idea... we all have the same chance, unless a superior IQ is unfair. on the topic of setting rules and Ryan's game, let's all think to back to when this happened in KDice, anyone remember? no? kay~ |

at 7:09 PM, Sunday April 6, 2008 EDT I understand part of the challenge is to guess it with no help, but coming from my point of view, even with the ability to draw fairly well, illustrating a pure concept is extremely difficult.
i looks at in in a practical manner, and while it should be up to the imagination for it to be whatever it should be, there are some words in here that cannot practically expressed without drawing some of your own hints. I completely agree, letters and words are not allowed in the general sketch, and they are part of the objective and challenge, but I am all for the exception, those very convoluted words that we sometimes must illustrate in the game either force those to adventurous enough to try it eventually waste their time or just a lot of passed words. I'm saying it's ok, for the exception and not the rule. |

No one cares Numbers for a list like: 1) 2) 3) Most people accept We should get clarification on the 2W/3W/ _+_+_ bit I think the "sounds like" ear needs to stay, some words not possible to draw even with context people may just name things in your picture not ever branching out to similar words |

at 7:38 AM, Wednesday April 9, 2008 EDT I have no issue with 2W/3W or blanks/breaks in the drawing pane to show the number of words in the correct answer. Even a a few letters where necessary (imagine trying to draw 'scrabble' or 'crossword puzzle' in 20 seconds without using a letter or two) are no problem with me. The real problem comes when people begin to spell out the word when they realize, with a few ticks of the timer left, that there is no way in hell that anyone is guessing their drawing correctly. OR, obviously, those that don't even bother to attempt a word and surprise us all with a a oneliner cursive answer.

at 10:50 PM, Wednesday May 21, 2008 EDT This is a drawing game, right? A game where you draw, not write. Therefore, ANY letters should be a no-no. You don't draw letters, you write them. Numbers, same deal. The hints are there and you only get one. So, there has to be some strategy used as the artist. Do you want to waste your one hint to telling people there are 2 words or tell them what letter is starts with and DRAW ______+______ to tell them 2 words? I guess what I am saying is if you are drawing, you are playing correctly and not cheating even if you draw a hint without using letters and numbers.

at 4:35 PM, Saturday May 24, 2008 EDT -ban all letters
-symbols should be ok (like having question marks above the head of a man to symbolize the word "thinking") -basically ban everything that can b given out using the hint button. |

at 6:58 AM, Monday May 26, 2008 EDT 1. You have to make a difference in the use of letters in words/speach and as symbols. You can't of course draw letters to spell the word you have to draw, or any other words that are linked to it. But it must be possible to use letters as symbols, for instance to draw the word 'grade' i have used a piece of paper with an A+ on it. That should be reasonable i think.
2. I myself have no problem with drawing blanks or the ___+____ for 2 words. |
