Is it possible that there are duplicate words on the word list?

I've wondered why some words seem to come up so much more frequently than others. It occurred to me that this might be accounted for if there were duplicates in the word list. I know that now, the "suggest words" link screens for words that have already been added, but was there ever a time that it didn't? Is it possible that the word list contains duplicates?

The "birthday paradox" is a well-known example. If you have 23 people in a room, the chance of two of those people sharing the same birthday is 1/2, and you only have to go to 57 people before you get a 99% chance. Human brains are also "designed" to spot patterns, even when they don't really exist. Even two or three examples of something happening randomly seems to "prove" a rule to us. I always find this an interesting subject :P |
