DASHES, BRACKETS, PARENTHESIS, AND WARNS

Just want to let everyone know the deal about dashes, brackets, and parenthesis. These are used quite often in the game and they are not against the rules. I still maintain (as I said in my verrryyy lonnng post) that they should be used as an end result, and one should try to draw the word first. That said, it is not against the rules to use them, and until it is, I ask that you do not warn people for using them. Warns are for rule breakers. I understand that some of the more seasoned players do not like the dashes being drawn first, but it is allowed. Here's the post if anyone has 30 min to read it...lol (j/k) http://www.xsketch.com/blog/78 Hugs and try to have fun.

The other post about arrogant players, says we were disappointed to see someone in the top 10 use dashes; that is not true. No one has any qualms about people using dashes on this site. A few people may choose to try and not include them in their own personal draws, but it is fine for everyone else to use them. What was disappointing to see, was that the first letter and dashes appeared before any attempt of a word. This is hangman... I know what this needs... .. A poster! Everyone loves a poster :p |

Being told to shut the fuck up is too far, I quit playing on this website. I wish you all the best. |

I think it's funny people find stuff on this site that offends them. It's almost like you're sheltered from the rest of the internet. There is so much worse stuff out there than the lil old f word. Go to 4chan or synchtube or motherless. Those are some extreme sites But rage quit the site too, that's fine as well. If you can't handle xsketch, don't play. |

at 6:30 AM, Friday July 15, 2011 EDT Gurgi is NOT a mod, and he was joking. Wurly, I certainly hate to see you go over a silly, random comment made by a kid who meant no harm at all, but if you do, enjoyed playing with you and good luck in life. I enjoyed talking and playing with you as I do with all of you. Aside from that, not gonna comment about the rules of the game again. I said all I know to say. I'm just a regular person with a regular life who said "yes" when asked to HELP people here and control the cheaters at the site. I think I've done ok, and if you guys wanna pick and poke at every single nuance and every single facet of the game, do it. All I have to worry about are the Rules. Nothing I can do about what everyone feels should happen, or what they think should happen. Not my site, or my decision. The rules are there and I will interpret them as best I can, with what I have been given. Hope you guys have a good day.

at 7:13 AM, Friday July 15, 2011 EDT This is how I personally interpreted the rules:
There is a hint button built into this game, which you may only use once on your go. Writing the first letter of the word is the same as using the first letter hint. Writing dashes is the same as the letter count hint. The hint button appears after some time; forcing you to DRAW first. Therefore, writing dashes (a hint) before trying to draw is wrong. Drawing dashes before any attempt of a drawing is the game hangman. If I were to get really into the rules, you can only use One hint; so writing dashes AND the first letter of the word is wrong. I do not think anyone minds this happening towards an end of the draw though, especially if it is a beginner doing so. I hope other players feel the same way about seeing people not attempting to draw (and will add a comment. I know some people refuse to join in playing hangman and do not guess the word. I came here to draw with my friends, and I love new players that draw too. http://www.webhangman.com/hangman.php |

at 8:56 AM, Friday July 15, 2011 EDT As everyone already knows, I used to warn people for the dashes before the draw...only because I misinterpreted kelly's "rules explained" post. Although I would not do it to the newcomers unless they were repeat offenders. I did, however, do it to the regular players that have been here long enough to know how to draw a word before doing dashes/first letter.
I no longer warn because of a player who was insulted by it, therefore I just abstain from guessing unless it is a new player. If it's a new player, I do just as I did before and ask them kindly in the chat box to please try to draw before dashing and most of the time, they say OK. I come here to play a sketching game though and not a game of hangman...so if we are essentially playing hangman, most of the regulars are going to go to a different table and not in any way to be mean, but because we want to play a drawing game, not hangman. I know I can't speak for everyone, but I also know a lot of regulars feel the same way. I talked to kelly about this several times because someone kept bringing it up and I do not warn for dashes before draws anymore because as kelly said, it's not against the rules. As for Ledickface's post...."I think it's funny people find stuff on this site that offends them. It's almost like you're sheltered from the rest of the internet."....maybe it wasn't you that wrote the last forum post about so called arrogant players or something??? Because what you just said is, yet again, another contradiction to your post. So I am done discussing the dashes, I am tired of people talking about it and let's just move on and hope that Ryan puts it in the rules (even though he's busy changing other things that we do not ask for and not changing the things we do ask for). And when a regular player starts using the dashes before attempting to draw, we can just move to another table to draw our cutesy things like penguins, mushrooms, cats and birds (before using dashes)! No rules against that :D |
