Okay, so we see a lot of players (including high-ranked) who's not even trying to make sketches, just using a small pictures to show every letter of the guess word. What do you think of this?

at 5:40 PM, Monday January 19, 2009 EST I think it's called rebus, and it's really taken off around here in the past few months. I think it may be helpful at times, but I wouldn't really call it cheaty.
I can see how it may be helpful, even necessary to be able to draw in individual letters for an aid, but I'm not sure how I feel about constructing entire words like this... Rebus: a representation of words or syllables by pictures of objects or by symbols whose names resemble the intended words or syllables in sound ; also : a riddle made up of such pictures or symbols |

at 6:54 PM, Monday January 19, 2009 EST with this game, it seems the general heuristic is "if the elite players do it, i guess it's okay"
with that said, i have no opinion on this tactic. it has its uses and it has its overuses. |

at 8:08 PM, Monday January 19, 2009 EST If a player does it to aid a confusing letter or spelling, its okay I guess, but if they dont even attempt to draw a main picture and merely draw lil pictures for each letter, even for simple words, then it gets very annoying.

at 1:00 AM, Tuesday January 20, 2009 EST I find it really frustrating. I'd like to see people attempt to draw something other than each individual letter, certainly not the whole word that way. We try to think of sketching difficulties when adding words, but it is also good to have some that are challenging as well. I don't think its cheating, but it just doesn't feel right to me.

at 1:10 AM, Tuesday January 20, 2009 EST i think this is a gray area. i dont like having to draw out the letters, i think it's just dumb. but i also dont like to pass, and sometimes i just get stuck and dont know what to draw, so i revert to this tactic instead of passing. i wouldnt call it cheating, but it certainly does seem to lower the integrity of the game to some extent. but so do a few other things we do here (outright cheating not included). it's a game without the involvement of money. sometimes i think it just shouldnt be taken so seriously. it's meant to be fun, isnt it?

at 1:20 PM, Thursday January 22, 2009 EST My Opinion:
I agree a symbol is ok for those situations where you don't have enough time to redraw a concept and that sense of desperation sets in because nobody is getting it. However if someone can't draw the picture or concept, I think they should pass. Using just symbols requires no skill or talent whatsoever and goes against the entire concept of the game. Not to mention it is boring as heck for the rest of the players. I just take a break. |
