Warning out newcomers

Sorry to be a boreeee, and I'm not sure if a post has been made about this yet but, it occurred to me that I should say this anyway.
I think that sometimes us regulars can be a little hard on newcomers. Most of them don't read the rules before they start to play (I was also guilty of this) and when they make an error, we warn them out, jump on their backs and basically just start off on the wrong foot. They then in turn get defensive, start arguing, which spawns a brawl in the chat box, which is then potentially the birth of a new troll (or at least someone who is angry enough to create an alt just to terrorize the living daylights out of us). I may be using the term "troll" loosely here, but I'm sure you understand what I mean. I tested this by logging in with an alt that I hadn't used before, made a minor error, and not only was I warned out instantly, but some of the regulars were more than harsh with their words. The urge to spit back and argue, despite it being a test, was hard to fight. This doesn't happen ALL the time, but enough times for me to notice. All I'm suggesting here, is that we try to be a little gentler with newcomers and explain the rules to them before warning them out. Unless of course there is flagrant obscenity..idk. You decide. Or discuss...whichever. Yuxxy out. |

at 11:36 PM, Monday July 11, 2011 EDT I agree. When a newcomer unknowingly breaks the rules, I try to just let them now in a nice way, even if it takes a few tries. They usually get it and continue playing the game and enjoy themselves. If we warn out new people and act like we are so superior, they will either act like Yux said, and be asses, or they will leave. Neither is good. Unless they are drawing something really inappropriate, just let them know in both boxes that next time they need to leave out the letters, numbers, and symbols. Maybe link them the rules. Thanks, Yux!

at 11:40 PM, Monday July 11, 2011 EDT FULLY agree with this! I know it's sometimes annoying to have to go through the same discussion every time with a new player, but we were all there once. I remember even writing guesses in the chat box, as well as being warned for using letters.
The fact that you tried and tested the method was a smart move Lena, spot check for the regs and you guys failed :P lol I know I'm hardly on these days and there is a whole new flock of players, but take the time to be nice guys :P Makes playing more enjoyable when there's no squabbles ;D Excellent post Lena, good job :D |

at 11:50 PM, Monday July 11, 2011 EDT I think it's funny to watch Kelly tell these people multiple times again and again how the website works.
In chat box: New guy: Cat New guy: feline New guy: cat nip Kelly: New guy, this is the chat box, please sit in to play New guy: catdog New guy: z0mby New guy: wtf, how do i guess I don't understand these people and why it happens so often |

at 12:00 AM, Tuesday July 12, 2011 EDT The problem does come from the rules not being obviously placed. I was gone for a year and when I came back did not thing to look at the bottom of the screen for the directory...the very bottom.
New people don't like to read rules either (e.g. Minecraft :3) The rules need to be stated in the back ground or something on table page. I don't know how to do it, but it is necessary |
